The Rest of the World
For Beverley, making work is a way to understand and connect with a particular place. Many of locations in this gallery are places where her daughter has lived for extended periods of time, or where they have traveled together. Her works start with a question — “what does it feel like to live in Memphis?” To which her daughter replied with descriptions of rolling storms coming in over the mighty Mississippi River, heat shimmering over tarmac, and fireflies dancing beneath old magnolia trees. Each piece is a collaboration of first impressions, photographs, memories and stories with the aim of creating something truer than life.
